Watching Carmen: The sixth look

as almost always, I don´t own this image but this baby is just like imagine baby Daniel to be ^^

“Are you serious?-I hissed, a change in my almost always playful disposition- you make her fall asleep here?!” I looked intently to Navitas
“You wouldn´t shut up. Leave Carmen alone” he said somber
“I haven´t been denied the permission for her to see me” I smirked
“I’m her guardian angel. I’m telling you to get away from her!” he was angry again and he was right, he was denying me permission to let her see me, that should be enough for me to stop it yet I decided not to listen to him, I´m like the wind after all.
“Are you leaving her here?” I raised my eyebrows “You should transform and help me get her home”
“I´m not letting people see me!” he said scandalized. I made my clothes more appropriate for this time and age, the robe and sandals became jeans, shirt and shoes.

I took Carmen´s keys from one of her jacket´s pockets and then carried her “as you wish –I smiled- take me to her home then” He had no other choice but to let me in her house, something that he was very reluctant to do but he was conflicted between what he didn´t want and her best interest. I brushed Carmen’s bangs out of her forehead. Navitas huffed and motioned for me to follow him.

I laid her on her bed and observed her for a minute before feeling Navitas getting increasingly angry, it only made me laugh. I turned air and went away through the open window but before I caressed Carmen’s cheeks in my wind form, she moved to a side, slipping her hands under her head. Navitas covered her with the comforter.

I like air. It´s everywhere and though it´s invisible its influence is seen everywhere, it´s like it has a personality of its own, sometimes peaceful and soft, sometimes angry and hard. Of all the things that I could become, I preferred air; there is so much to discover thought it. As I was enjoying of the nocturnal air I focused on the baby, he´d grown to be a chubby baby, he´d often smile to all the family parade that came and went in his house, he was much loved. At night though when he was alone on his crib, he felt scared and it was all so big and unknown. I smiled for him and sang to him, he´d smile and make small sounds and I wrapped myself as a blanket, letting him know that he was safe and he felt it and he dreamed of all the unknown, new things and color that his eyes saw. It was so peaceful.

Baby Daniel, in his short and innocent age, also dreamed of me. I was always in the background of his dream, just like he saw me during the day, always behind his parents but he also had dreams of me when I played with him when he was alone. I watched over his sleep in the quietness of his room.

Daniel was an early riser, the sun light barely touched his window and he opened his little almond shaped and colored eyes, he blinked a few times and graced me with a smile. I talked to him as I caressed the soft hair on his head; he made a sound as he laughed. He looked around and made more sounds calling for his mother but both his parents were sound asleep, they had spent most of the night in conversation.

The baby talked to me, asking me if I knew of his parents. Even if he didn´t speak yet, his brain was able to retain words, he already associated his mom to words as well as other things that he saw and heard on daily basis. I got into his crib, he gave me a smile as I brushed his hair, he giggled and made sounds that his mind associated to his mom but she didn´t come so he ended up crying.

The mom came to him and lifted him making a cradle of her arms. The baby opened his mouth in hopes that the pain of his now hungry tummy stopped. His mother fed him and he put his little hand on his mother´s chest feeling the heart beat that had been his lullaby when he was in her belly. The mother started to talk to her child. The father smiled as he heard his family´s voice through the baby monitor. That´s a great way to wake up he thought for himself even though he´d never say that aloud.

Double Life: Request

A/N: I don´t like this one´s tittle but I couldn´t find a better one... I couldn´t finda good pix either...
**
“Why did you do that to that man´s eyes?” Natasha asked Nichole, she had arrived to Nichole´s room as she was getting ready to go out.
“What are you doing here?” the girl asked buttoning her shirt
“I want to know”
“Why does it matter?”
“Why?! –the woman asked in a higher pitched voice- a crime scene had to be created only because you deciding you wanted the man to look blind! –she said sternly, Nichole shrugged- doing that means spending large amounts of money” Natasha finished and Nichole glared
“I make enough money for all of you, don´t come telling me that it means spending money when it´s not you the one doing the dirty work”
“I get to deal with you” she quipped
“And who asked you to be around me? Besides you get money every time you talk to me. How much will you make for this one, eh?” Nichole´s eyes bored into Natasha´s
“Baby, I´m sorry” the woman apologized with big watery eyes
“Stop!” Nichole hissed, Natasha looked like a scolded child

“You know I have to ask, you father often asks about the jobs you do, I´m sure he´ll ask this time”
“And why are you sure of that?”
“It was an easy job, the guy was in a bar, obviously drinking, he had no fighting skills worth noting… yet you didn´t just leave him there”
“I was going to slit his throat… that would´ve been a harder scene to make –she grinned- I settled for his eyes”
“What? Why?”
“You are getting sloppy or you didn´t tell me all the information you knew of him”
“Why? Did you found something out?” the older woman asked eagerly
“You don´t fool me, you know, I´ve known you for a long time…”
“Why would I send you knowing you´d get hurt? I would never do that”
“Right”
“Nichole, what happened?” the woman stood up and walked towards Nichole attempting to touch her shoulder, the girl moved away “Nic, talk to me”
“He got violent, pushed me against a wall and pressed himself against me” Nichole´s voice had not emotion, no anger, no frustration. Natasha gasped.
“How…? It was a crowded place, how could he do that?”
“It was dark too, the man was drunk, you´re smart enough to figure out the rest…”
“Are you ok? Did he hurt you?” Natasha asked with concern, the girl laughed.
“Are you suddenly worried about my well-being?”
“Of course, I am! I care about what happens to you!”
“I see… and since when that started?”
“You know I know you since you were born, I´ve always cared” Natasha tilted her head to a side
“Why?” Nichole´s voice was genuinely curious
“What do you mean why? I wasn´t a doctor yet but I got to take care of you, you were a cute baby, I care for you” she said aggravated. Nichole tilted her head in thought

“Where was the fertility clinic that my parents used? –Nichole asked and Natasha shifted somewhat- did you work there?” the girl continued ignoring the older woman´s subtle reaction
“I didn´t know they did that”
“As time goes by you become worse at lying…”
“I’m not lying!” the woman said defensively
“You are” the girl countered with a soft voice
“Why would I lie about that?!”
“That´s what I´m wondering”
“I´m not” Natasha turned over her finger one of her rings again, she did that when she lied
“I know you are… but I´ll humor you… -the girl smiled her rehearsed smile- because you are going to find where my parents go and how much they paid and the doctor or doctors who did the procedures and anything else you can find about that… It´ll be easy for you, because you already know”
“Nichole… -the woman sighed- I can´t go around asking questions, you know your dad pays me for very specific functions …and you can always go and ask him directly”
“You will do as I request”
“I can´t this time”
“If you didn´t feel like lying we wouldn´t have to do this…”
“I´m not lying and I can´t help you with that, you will have to ask your father”
“You do know that I can threat your life if you refuse to my request, right?”
“Come on, Nichole, not again, you´re not like that”
“I´ve killed many from a very young age, do you think I feel anything now? –the girl raised her eyebrows –I´m a monster and I don´t care” an evil grin had spread in Nic´s mouth
“You wouldn´t…”
“You could test me… besides I want to try and see if I can leave someone blind by touching their eyes… I´ve been thinking that a light touch would be enough… you know, my last experiment didn´t go well” she shrugged. Natasha shifted uncomfortable closer to her bag

“Why is it so important to you?”
“I want to know”
“But why now?”
“I´m an adult now, I can handle it and I´m ought to know where I come from” the girl laughed
“You´re not even 17 yet” Natasha rolled her eyes
“That´s not true, my cousin, Nichole Duchenne who was a year younger, would´ve been 16 if she hadn´t died in that car accident, my sweet uncle Karl took me as his child and now I just turned 18” Nichole told the story she´d been taught to say, the fake identity she´d taken once she started her way in training the monster she had within her. Natasha sighed
“Nichole, you know I know the truth, you took her identity but you are not her, you´ll be 17 in a few days”
“I´m legally 18, which is as good as it being true”
“Yeah… about that, we won´t be getting your ID until after this school year ends”
“I couldn´t care less”
“I thought you´d want to have it sooner”
“What I want is the information I asked, don´t you think I´ve forgotten about that”
“I told you I can´t help you with that”
“You know, Nat, I used the word request out of courtesy but this is something you have to do whether you want it or not”
“No”
“You don´t want to test my patience and tolerance”
“I will inform your father of your request”
“Do it and you´ll be either blind or dead” Nichole wondered if her words were real or if it was the monster talking or if she had completely been swallowed by it. In a second she felt like crying but her body was taken over by the monster, no physical manifestation of her feelings was seen through her body.
“I can always fight you… you are not immune”
“I thought we´ve made it clear that it´s not on your best interest to threaten me… You might injure me but I will kill you” she said with a serene voice

“I see that you´re very willing to hurt me despite how much you say you care about me” Nichole broke the tense silence that had fallen between them
“I wouldn´t hurt you but you force me to consider it if I have to defend my life”
“All you have to do to avoid that is give me what I ask”
“You´re just like a child, trying to force me to give you what you want”
“I deserve what I ask you”
The woman opened her mouth with the intention of contradict the girl but no words came out of her mouth.
Nichole glanced at her wrist watch “You made me lose training” she commented. The woman quickly looked at her watch too
“I had to know your motives”
“Now you know”
“I want to examine you…”
“He didn´t wound me” They were talking about Nic´s last victim
“That doesn´t me you are not hurt”
“Just a bruising” the girl admitted
“Let me see”
“No need”
“Let me do my job”
“I will show you if you tell me when you first met me”
Nat furrowed her eyebrows “Why? You know that already”
“Maybe I´m nostalgic” the girl said in a small voice, the woman stared at her for a moment

“Alright, I first met you when you were very small, your mother was so happy with that small bump that you were and your father was overly protective of you both…”
“You were the doctor´s assistant” Nichole interrupted telling a piece of information that Natasha had let slip when she was hurt back when she was training with Tilly. Nat gasped. “Yes, I still remember your words” the girls said guessing Nat´s question
“How? You were just a little girl and barely awake”
“I paid attention. You were the doctor´s assistant, meaning you either worked at the clinic or at least knew of it”
“I don´t”
“Oh, please, you can´t deny it now” Nichole smirked. Natasha closed her eyes and took a deep breath as if preparing for something hard.

2months

it´s been 63 days since my baby niece and her parents moved in with us. That´s the amount of days that I haven´t written a rant/complaint. She´s made me happy somehow, I´ve been sad but by only seeing her I smile. I adore her.

I made the baby cry today. I had been holding her, she seems to like to sleep with me as her pillow, I love that. She didn´t fall asleep today, mom came to carry her but the baby never took her eyes from me. I started to talk to mom, I started to cry and the baby started to cry so loud, just like when she got her vaccines, she never cries like that...

I'm sad. I´m trying to get over it but I just can´t make myself get over it...
In a way this one is how I feel... It´s a crappy translation but ... w/e

Double Life: Bad Timing

A/N: this must be a late xmas miracle...I´m still posting hahaha -ok, I read it as I wrote it... so there must b mistakes there... the miracle´s not enough to make me edit lol I had troubles putting the tittle to this one but in the end the one above made me kinda laugh hahaha
*****

“Fries?” Josh offered to Nichole. They were in the cafeteria line at lunch the next day of their outing. She grinned and shook her head.
“We ate fries last night”
“What about…?” a hand tapped at Josh´s shoulder “Aaron” his twin brother got in the line behind Josh, not recognizing the girl in front of his twin, she wasn´t looking anymore.
“Where did you go last night?” Aaron asked bluntly
“Nowhere”
“I called grandpa last night to ask for the driver… guess who took it?”
“Who?” Josh asked
“Next” said the cashier with a stern voice. The boys looked at her. Nichole was gone. Josh paid as he looked at the cafeteria doors; she was walking her particular walk through them.

“So, where did you go?” Aaron asked again once they sat
“Nowhere. I told you”
“Grandpa said you asked for the car”
“It was a school night, maybe he didn´t want you to go out”
“He would have said so. No Aaron, you go out too much, focus on your grades and in not getting expelled” the boy made an imitation of his grandpa’s voice. Josh laughed. “Where were you?” he asked yet another time.
“I told you nowhere”
“I went your room, your dorm supervisor told me you had permission to go out and you´re not telling me where so a certain girl must be involved” Aaron smirked
“Where did you want to go?”
“Ash and Jess invited us to a party, a college party”
“Karl Duchenne daughter´s asked you out, on a school night? I thought they weren´t allowed”
“Well, that´s why I wanted that car, their parents were busy with their little sister”
“You were going to help dad´s business partner´s daughters to sneak out? That´s stupid” Josh said, somewhat wincing inwardly, he´d done the same thing at the same time. “At least he doesn´t know I know his other daughter” Josh thought to himself.
“It´s not like they´ve never sneaked out”
“Aaron, be careful with those girls, or any girl, you know we can´t make our parents mad again…” somewhere inside him, Josh felt like a hypocrite, except that he was not going to a party.
“Do you know what can make them mad too?” Aaron asked
“What?” Josh inquired in a bored tone
“Their son getting in the girl´s dorm” green eyes similar to his bored into his eyes, Josh wanted to blink but he grinned instead
“Where do you get those ideas, Aaron?”
“You smell just like her”
“That’s ridiculous!” Josh combed his hair with his hand taking the chance to smell himself without being noticed.
“You just smelt you hand” Aaron smirked. Josh took a deep breath
“We often hold hands” he supplied, not wanting to reveal that but it was worse to admit Aaron was right. The twin widened his eyes and his eyebrows went up
“Regardless of that, you´ve used her shampoo” Aaron had a smug expression
“When have you smelt her hair?” Josh huffed
“Plenty of times”
“That´s creepy”
“Whatever…”
“Creepy” Josh said and his twin looked to a side and focused on his food.

“Are you dating her?” Aaron asked after a while
“No”
“Were you on a date with her last night?”
“No”
“You know I wouldn´t rat you out, right?”
“I know” Josh wouldn´t have had a problem telling he had spent the night at Nichole´s room but then he´d have to say the reason and of Nichole going out of school and that was not his secret to tell.

“Just tell me something” Aaron said and Josh lifted his eyebrows “you used her shampoo this morning” he tried to make it a question but he ended up stating it. Josh looked at his twin pondering and slowly nodded a couple of times. Aaron´s eyes widened.
“Josh…” the bell rang
“Time to go” Josh interrupted his twin as he stood up
“Don´t kiss and tell, huh?” Josh´s twin said walking next to him, Josh chuckled.
“You have a wild imagination”
“I’d tell you if it was me…”
“There´s nothing to tell”
“Except for the shampoo…” he elbowed his twin
“I´ll ask her some for you” Josh joked as they parted.

“Aaron thinks… we´re sleeping together” Josh to Nichole in the classroom as students were filling the place.
“He tends to have a bad timing… or rather a good one –she said not taking her eyes from the window- I guess he went to look for you”
“Apparently, I smell like you today” he whispered again, she turned to face him; she stared for a moment and then started to quietly laugh “Is that funny?”
“I thought no one would notice that” she had some humor in her voice “what did you say?”
“I confirmed… sort of, that it was your shampoo… just that” he furrowed his eyebrows. She chuckled this time. He couldn´t say anything else. The teacher demanded the class’ attention.

Double Life: Murky Eyes

The black car was waiting in the usual place. Nichole got in, not caring to remove the raincoat. The car took her to town, the town close to Burgeoys. They drove to the only opened place, far from the ones she´d visited. It was some kind of bar and restaurant, men and women were outside. The girl went in handing a high denomination bill. The girl walked to the bar and sat at one of the tall chairs, she sat turned to a side. Less than ten minutes later someone approached her.

“Hello, are you by yourself?” a young man asked. She glared.
“I´d like to keep it that way”
Similar exchanges were made a couple of more times
“I know you” a man in his late twenties said to her
“Is that your best line?” she raised an eyebrow, the monster started to creep out of her. The man laughed
“You undressed in my car tonight” he said mischievously
“I doubt that… why would I even do that?”
“You were putting a show for your little boyfriend” he said with disdain
“It was very inconvenient that you were there…” she said as if remembering
“I wanted to be in the show” the man leaned closer to her
“It was a private one… for him only” she smiled her rehearsed smile
“Only the Arlington boy gets that special treatment?”
“That´s how it is”
“Yet he lets you be alone here…”
“He’s asleep now. I was bored…”
“I heard today was your birthday”
“Yeah, that´s why we went out…” she smiled a small smile
“Today´s my birthday too and no one gave me a present, I even had to drive precious Arlington boy around”
“You sound like a jealous brother. They must pay you well for their little trips”
“Your boy is the prince and I am a mere peasant” he spat
“Yeah, he does look like a prince with those amazing green eyes and that sexy stance” she touched the tip of her nose with her index finger. “Why would Josh think of that” she thought. The man huffed.

“Do you know that all the Arlington´s have green eyes?”
“Do you know them all?” the monster inside her settled down for a bit, deciding to stalk the man instead of doing what it was planning to do right away.
“You said the private show was reserved for the boy…”
“For the Arlington´s, yeah” she took the hint and grinned
“Both twins?” he laughed a breathy laugh
“What can I say? I love those eyes” she shrugged, feeling sick for what the monster was implying
“Does precious little Joshua shares you?”
“He doesn´t own me” she smirked
“What if I had those eyes?” he raised his eyebrows as he took he hand and kissed over her gloves. She smiled with the side of her mouth
“Sadly… you don´t…” she sighed. He let go of her hand and bent down a little, taking his hands to his eyes. He sat straight taking a small box from his jacket, he looked up at her with a pair of eyes she´d seen before in the twin´s father. She gasped but the monster was in control making the girl cup the man´s face in her hands.

“Amazing –she whispered as the man smirked- you´re one of them… -she stated and the man huffed- and you made me think you were just a peasant…”
“To them I am”
“You´re one of the princes” she stared deeply into his eyes
“I´m his mistake”
“You’re the twin´s brother?”
“No… I´d be their uncle”
“They don´t know…?” she asked knowing the answer, Josh had been too cold for him to know that the man belonged to his family. The man shook his head “We should tell them” she said
“My father –he said angrily- wouldn´t want his mistake to ruin their happy family… the boys to have it all”

“You deserve some too”
“I´m loaded with money so that I shut up, so that I wear this stupid contacts” in the course of their conversation the man had drank a little too many glasses of different liquors
“You deserve more… I deserve more” she faked feeling shy, the man smirked
“I´ve been wondering how to wreck my old man´s little boys… I almost did it tonight…”
“Won´t the man blame you if something happens to them while they´re with you?”
“I need a way for him to not know it was me. That stupid school of them has too many guards”
“It does”
“Will you run to the little dipshit to tell him about me?” he grabbed her wrists. She smiled. He narrowed her eyes. She shook her head “I should give you a birthday present” he stood up and made her stand; he took her by her wrist towards the back of the place.
“I’ll give you a present too” the monster said loudly above the booming music. The back side of the place was empty.
“Now…” he said pushing her to the wall
“Back inside, you kissed my hand, why are you being so rude?” she pouted
“The whore wants me to treat her nicely” he grabbed her neck and pushed her shoulders with the other arm, pressing herself against her on her left side. She managed to bend her leg up and reached for her dagger.

“If you don´t let me go, I´ll slit your throat” she had the knife on his neck. He let go slowly.
“Now, now… don´t get mad, honey…” he reached for her hand. She moved the knife ready to attack. “I´ll kiss your hand as you wanted –he smile and he had a similar smile than the twins, it was sickening- I promise I´ll behave”
“I´ll stab you if you don´t”
“Feisty, huh?” he chuckled; she put the knife away and took off both her gloves and placed them inside the pockets of her raincoat. She extended her hand and put it close to his lips; he took her hand and kissed it.

“Good bye” said Nichole as she felt the first hard pain chest, just like he did, he let go but she took hold of his hand. He fell as if his heart was being squeezed and so did she. He moaned in pain as she glared. “Your nephews had done nothing to you and you were planning to hurt them…”
The man took his other hand to his chest as his knees gave in to gravity
“You´re despicable” were the last words he heard before his eyes were a murky green; she bent down and touched his irises with her index finger and thumb. They became pale, the gray color that blind people have. She walked away as she wore her leather gloves back.

"Go clean" the monster said into the receiver and hung up as questions started.

Watching Carmen: The Fifth Look

A/N: Edited as it was being typed in Word... I wonder... Out of all the Watching Carmen posts, I think this is my favorite.
***

Carmen was glad that Patricia, her boss, had asked her to open the library the next day, though at the time she´d been angry because she always liked spending the night at Samuel´s after one of their dates, she liked it a lot to wake up cuddled in his arms and if she had to open the place it meant she was going to have to go home.

The woman sighed. “How can you do this to me?” Carmen said under her breath as she climbed the staircase towards the library´s main entrance. She didn´t bother to turn on the lights, she knew the place by heart, she´d been working there since she majored in literature, her family had insisted for her to find what they thought was a better job but she always laughed it off, she loved the place, she wouldn´t mind getting old there.

Carmen had made her goal to read every book in the place, she chuckled as she thought this one more time as her hand caressed the back of the books, she´d left many unread books already. She walked towards the poetry section which she´s been reading; she turned on the lights of that section only and took a book at random. She looked at it. It was a Roque Dalton book, a very raw type of poetry, always talking about the social injustices… Carmen sat in front of the new painting, she stared at it for a moment.

“Are you watching me?” she huffed and started her reading. After an hour or so the lights flickered, it was midnight already. She rolled her eyes; she hated interruptions in her private time. She glanced up to the lamps of the high ceiling when she looked down to her book, she thought she saw the angel in the painting in front of her move, she squinted her eyes and got up walking to the picture. Carmen rubbed her eyes with her left hand, the book on her other hand.

“I´m hallucinating” she mumbled once she removed her hand from her eyes. She turned to go to her seat but she saw a tiny light right in front of the image of the angel, she turned to the picture again as the light grew wider, she stepped back until her back touched the table behind her, the angel from the painting got up as the light seemed to get in him, he walked straight to her stepping out of the frame, leaving empty the painting. Carmen´s eyes were wide. And all coherent thought left her brain.

The woman in front of the empty painting snapped out of her astonishment when the book she was holding hit the floor, it sounded loud for the lack of people, she flinched as I bent to pick up the book.

“Good night” I greeted handing the book; she laughed leaving me at a loss. I smiled “Is something funny?” I looked around, Navitas, invisible next to her was bending protectively around her, the angel´s eyes angry at me for showing myself to a human.
“The painting has come to life, only I could dream of that” she stressed the word I as she took the book from my hand.
“Are you dreaming?” I inquired to her back; she was walking to sit in the same brown wood chair. She sat and put her book in front of her, on the table.
“There´s no other explanation” she said dismissively
“What if it’s real?” I tilted my head; she glanced up at me from her book, huffed and shrugged.

“And now you´ll keep reading a book that if this is a dream you are not really reading and if this is real then that´s so boring compared to an angel in front of you” I reasoned as she kept her eyes on the book, she glanced at me again
“Not an angel, a painting, the author´s imagination”
“Maybe the author did see me, the angel” I said causing her to laugh.
“This is so me –she lightly hit her head with the book- I´m arguing with myself in my mind with the bits of information that Linda gave me a few weeks ago” she sighed. I chuckled because her reasoning actually made sense but also because it said that she had a vivid imagination…but also she seemed very willing to accept she was asleep very quick.

“Ok, angel of the painting –she stared at me as I smiled- let´s have a talk –she motioned to the chair right in front of her, I pulled it and sat- I have things to ask you” she narrowed her eyes
“Alright, let´s talk” I slightly bowed my head
“Ok, first, why did your painter named you Watching Carmen?
“Because I was watching you”
“Right –she giggled- I´m not your Carmen –she made quotation marks- you´re mistaken, that picture seems pretty old, I wasn´t even born” she rolled her eyes
“I looked at you at the beach”
“You´re confused, angel. Now –she continued her questions- tell me what´s your name, if you have one”
“Caelum” I simply said, she laughed again
“Latin –she smiled- Sky, right, I sometimes am shocked at the creations of my mind, I haven´t thought of that before, Caelum –she seemed to ponder- I like it”
“And I like yours” I supplied, she rolled her eyes
“Show me your wings” she commanded. I stood up and spread a pair of wings from my back, they´re nothing like birds’ are but I guess that´s the closest reference to how they are. Carmen slowly walked to me “Turn around” she said once she was closer, she touched my back, where my wings were connected to my back.  It’s such a fascinating thing the sense of touch. My skin tingled as she inspected my wings.

“You´re like an angel” she said in awe after a while, she was now touching my forehead, my left temple, going down with two of her fingertips to end up tracing my jaw line. I closed my eyes, I wanted to feel the touch but at the same time I could still see her as clear as I was still watching the baby and an angry Navitas protecting her, it was his doing that she thought it was a dream. He´d whispered that to her in hopes that it protected her.
“I thought you said I was a product of your imagination” I said quietly, she chuckled
“You are. I made you good” she stood there just looking at me for a long while

“Who´s your author?” she asked going back to her seat. Once she sat, she crossed her arms over her chest as if daring me
“I can´t tell you that”
“Of course you can´t! –she uncrossed her arms and moved her hands as she spoke- it´s not in my brain since it´s unknown, you don´t know it either”
“Oh, I know –I place my hands on the table, across from her- This was made for you”
“Right”
“Think about it, it found you. I came down to you through the artist paintbrush”
We remained silent.

“I wonder if I´m cuddled on Sam´s arms” she said to herself
“What happened there was real” I informed her of her rejecting of the man
“I know” she interrupted
“And so is this”
“Go back to your painting, Caelum, you´ll be missed if you are not there once the library opens” she sighed
“I´ll keep watching you from there –I smiled- I just wanted to make a miracle for you tonight” I quoted her phrase, her eyes grew with realization as Navitas touched her forehead and she immediately fell asleep.

Watching Carmen: The Fourth Look

The baby had dimples and he smiled easily, his big round eyes were a bit red, he´d cried a little, his mom hadn´t rushed enough to feed him, her eyes were a little watery but she was comforting him with her embrace, it all made me smile a little. She tenderly rocked the baby and he fixed his bright eyes on her, his little mind was learning and engraving all his mother´s features, the sound of her voice was known to him but now he saw the tiny changes in her face, the light in her eyes that was a mirror or his own light. The new mother kissed her son´s hand and he smiled showing his mouth without a single tooth, she smiled brightly and baby talked to him.

They were waiting for the father, she was still in her maternity leave, she missed him so much and wished she could be with him as much as before, it made her uneasy but she didn´t exactly knew why, the more she thought about it, the more uneasy she felt, it made me sad so I hugged both her and her baby with the form of a soft breeze, I went through the soft waves of her hair, it made her child smile and she forgot her uneasiness.

“You enjoy playing way too much” Fabre[i], the mother’s angel, said shaking his head

“I can´t stand this” Carmen didn´t even take the ring out of the box, she looked away as if the shine of the single diamond on top of the white gold band offended her.
“Why not, Carmen?” said the man still on one knee
“Stand up, Sam –Carmen urged the man and motioned to the chair he´d used just a moment before- I can´t do this” she stood up and started to walk out heading to the door, the man, Samuel, went after her, the velvet box now closed still in his hand.

“Carmen, please –he touched her shoulder- this is not a bad thing. I want to spend the rest of my life with you” upon those words she turned around
“Look –her gaze was gentle- we don´t need that to spend our life together besides how can you plan for such a long time, people change all the time…”
“My feelings for you won´t change” he interrupted with a cool confidence that made Carmen smile
“You don´t know that… I don´t want to be like the rest…”
“We´re not like the rest”
“but we are, in time you´ll want the submissive wife, the one to take care of you, the one to make a tiny person and I will expect things from you too, I will expect security from you… -she started to shake her head as if she was looking all that in front of her- I can´t have that, we will both demand something from the other and will end up feeling disappointed. I don´t want that”
“That will not happen, Carmen, I love you”
“You can’t make those promises as you can´t make miracles happen”
“I love you enough to make that promise” he took a step closer to her
“And I love you –she kissed him softly- which is why I won´t accept that” she whispered and headed out the door. Inside the house the man sighed heavily and slumped on his couch, putting his feet on the coffee table in front of it, he threw the small flower base with the single white rose he´d gotten for Carmen, the piece of pottery broke in hundred pieces as Carmen was walking fast down the street not sure where she was going.

“You´re breaking the rules” Navitas said angrily. Caelum closed his eyes with a smirk on his mouth. He was pacing the library where Carmen worked.
“I´m just going to give her a small miracle” he vanished in a tiny sparkle.
