Unfocused

Nichole walked over her footsteps back to the black car where her very talkative new driver was waiting. Worried eyes were the first thing she noticed. If she hadn´t been taught to not feel she would´ve felt guilty after all, it was either her knife or a call from her father that had made him look that worried.

As soon as the car started moving she looked for the hand sanitizer that was always in the car, the bottle only had ⅓ of its contents which she poured over both her hands, cleaning thoroughly even though she knew that nothing, not even cuts affected her right hand, it was so deadly that anything died when it touch that hand.

A few hours passed before they reached the well lit road that conduced to beautiful big welthy houses. Philip stopped near a park where the trees produced some shadow. Nichole got off and climbed a big tree going through a branch that extended over a big electric wall to a garden with roses and green grass. The house was dark, one of the windows open and a man laying on a couch with many empty beer cans on the floor. He was sound asleep. She sat on the love-seat next to the couch and observed the ample T.V room. It could´ve been nice but it was dirty as was the man with his long messy hair and unshaved face. She looked around and kicked several cans, the man woke up.

“Hello” she whispered. The man flinched
“Who are you?” the man´s voice was hoarse
“I need to know where your father keep his files” she requested. The man´s eyes widened.
“I don´t know what are you talking about. Now get out of my house.I´m calling the police” the man said feeling coward, the girl talking to him was smaller, he knew he could take her out himself.
“Just tell me where he keeps his stuff” she said ignoring the man´s threat. He got closer to a drawer. “Don´t even think so” she said guessing what was in the drawer. He opened it and she sprinted to him, hands naked. He quickly fell to the ground curled, dead.

I wish you would´ve told me she said, dropping the little bags she had taken from the guy in the dirty alley. While he slept a few of them had gotten in his system as her instructions were. “I wonder if Josh could find a way to justify what I just did”, she murmured to herself while opening a room.

The room was filled with books and a big old desk was in the middle. She opened the drawers and saw only blank pages and office supplies. She stared at the things in the office, there were many pictures that seemed to be old. Many of them were the portraits of babies and the people who seemed to be their parents, smiling children seemed to be growing up in that wall; however, one of them called her attention, it was the image of a baby´s hand being hold by what seemed like a woman´s hand, the baby´s face was slightly out of focus. She got close to the picture, in a corner of it she saw a “thank you” and under the words there were two signatures, one of them she recognized, it was her father´s and the other, though she didn´t recognize it, was her mother´s name. She felt her pulse to raise but she ignored it and pretended she didn´t care to know about it..

Carefully she took the frame between her hands and turned it, taking off the back cover of the frame. Attatched to the inside of the backcover of the picture there was a micro memory card, carefully she took it and placed it on her pocket. She put again the back cover of the frame without really wanting to. She put the frame back in its place and moved a few other pictures. She left the room and silently went to the second floor, opened carefully the room that she thought could be the place to leave, as indicated in her instructions, the man, now dead, seemed to be all alone.

The room was messy and the window was open. She climbed out of it to the red roof and walked to the edge of it. She smiled because she had to jump from there to the branch from where she had came in. “I could brake a leg doing this”, she murmured to herself while checking that her gloves wouldn´t fall and then she bent her knees while stretching her hands and clearing her mind. She jumped and grabbed the branch that bend and threaten to brake but didn´t. Then, she jumped back to the other side of the wall and walked to the car that waited her.

She wished the driver was faster since she clearly saw a guard coming their way, Philip seemed to notice too and drove faster but not fast enough to cause suspicions. She wondered what information was stored in the small card and the reason of her mother´s handwriting in the back of that picture. Who was that man that she had just killed, at that thought she just stopped thinking, it was the worst thing to remember what she did, it was horrible to have to live with so many lives taken, she wished she could take hers as easily as she could take other people´s lives.

This has taken a while and it feels still incomplete besides of being one of the shortest parts of this story so far but I tried.

  1. I liked the part when she laughed at the prospect of breaking her leg on the roof. it seems like an odd response to a dangerous situation but because it was Nic it didn't seem that weird. Lol
Aw. Poor Philip. Haha. I feel bad for him
I love the part when she wondered what would Josh think of her actions. its like she wants to believe she isn't frightening even though she pretends she doesn't care... or something like that. I can't really explain what I mean by that statement. Ha
